Overview

A chrome ring, black surround or white face often makes a wall clock stand out. By daytime it may fade from your attention, only for its sound to become noticeable again at two o'clock overnight.

Alabaster takes the form of a pair of stones overlapping. Pale travertine covers the main face, with narrow brown numbers arranged along the outer rim. On the right, a gently off-white moon disc stands above the surface, creating real depth instead of a flat printed effect. A darker, smaller pebble overlaps a lower corner. That interruption to the outline distinguishes it from an ordinary circular clock.

A smoothly sweeping quartz mechanism moves the seconds hand without discrete ticks, keeping a study or bedroom quiet. It runs on one AA battery and hangs from a rear keyhole slot. Choose among three widths, spanning 29.7 cm to 39.5 cm, for placement above a sideboard or as the only object on an empty wall.

Care

Use a soft, dry cloth for dust, or use a dry, clean make-up brush around the numbers. Remove marks with a cloth that is only slightly damp, then dry immediately. Prolonged moisture affects the board inside: avoid soaking, abrasive products and spray cleaners. Replace the battery annually rather than letting it run out. Take the clock down first, so the battery change does not involve reaching above your head.

Materials

Laminated wood board forms the main dial and the smaller overlapping pebble, both finished to resemble stone. The face is pale travertine; the little stone has a darker sandy shade. A matte off-white moon disc stands proud of the dial, with matte brown numbers and matte black hands. Silent quartz mechanism with continuous sweep, powered by 1 × AA battery, excluded. Maximum widths: 12 in corresponds to 29.7 cm, 14 in to 34.7 cm, and 16 in to 39.5 cm. Approximately 3 cm deep; one rear keyhole hanger. Approximate weight: 0.64 kg.

Which size fits my wall?

Measure the clear wall space and compare it with the three listed diameters. A 12-inch clock suits a smaller wall area; the 16-inch option has more visual presence. Leave space around doors, shelves and artwork.

Does it tick?

The listing describes a quiet movement, but does not provide a decibel measurement. If complete silence is essential, ask support before ordering.

Are batteries and mounting hardware included?

The current listing does not specify them. Contact support for the exact package contents and mounting instructions before purchase.

Choose a size for your wall

For a subtle presence over a console or sideboard, choose the 12 in size measuring 29.7 cm. An otherwise empty wall suits the 16 in version at 39.5 cm: its larger face fills the area rather than seeming lost against it.

Five minutes, one hook

Hang the rear keyhole opening from a screw or picture hook; there is just one slot, with neither a bracket nor template required. Its uneven outline disguises a millimetre of tilt, making slight misalignment less noticeable than on a circular clock.

Stone appearance without the heaviness

Wood board carries a fired travertine finish, reproducing stone's cloudy veins and chalky matte surface while weighing around 640 g. Plasterboard can support this light construction, and the weight will not dislodge a fixing in the wall of a rented home.

Finally a clock I cannot hear

I am a light sleeper and the last bedroom clock lasted about a week before it went in a drawer. This one genuinely makes no sound at all — I put my ear right against it to check. Got the 14 in and it sits well over the chest of drawers.

Looks like actual stone from a metre away

I expected a printed sticker finish and braced myself. It has proper cloudy veining and a chalky matte surface, and the moon part stands out from the face so it throws its own little shadow. Two people have asked where the marble one came from.

Buy the bigger one

I ordered the 12 in first for a big empty hallway wall and it looked lost, entirely my fault. Swapped to the 16 in and it is right. Hung on one existing picture hook in about two minutes, and the numbers are readable from the far end of the hall.

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose the size?
Start by measuring your available wall space. The 12 in size (29.7 cm) suits placement over a console or sideboard. Choose 16 in (39.5 cm) for an empty wall, or for a hallway where you check the time farther away. If neither feels clear, the 14 in version (34.7 cm) provides an intermediate option.
Does it tick?
No. A quartz mechanism with a continuous sweep moves the seconds hand smoothly, without individual one-second jumps. Even a quiet bedroom has no clicking to hear. We selected this mechanism for that silence rather than using the less expensive type with a stepping seconds hand.
Is genuine stone used?
No — we chose laminated wood board with a travertine finish to keep the clock's weight around 640 g. At these dimensions, stone would weigh several kilos, requiring a substantial wall fixing. This construction lets you hang it from one hook instead.
How is it mounted?
A moulded keyhole opening in the rear fits over one screw head or a standard picture hook. You do not need a template or bracket to hang it. Because the outside edge is uneven, a small tilt is less apparent than it would be with a circular clock face.
Battery supplied with it?
No. One AA powers it, but shipping rules in some places prevent us including a battery inside the clock. Use a new alkaline AA, not one already partly depleted; it should last about a year. The sweeping mechanism uses slightly more power than a stepping movement.
How will it look against dark or colourful paint?
Warm cream, plaster, limewash and muted olive let the sandy shades blend into the background. Against a deeply coloured dark wall, the clock becomes a pale, bright outline. That contrast can be intentional, although the brown numbers look a little less soft in that setting than they do against gentler colours.
