This frameless 3d wall clock lets your wall do the talking. Twelve sculpted numerals press directly into the plaster, circling a quartz hub that moves without a sound, so there is no dial and no rear plate, and your wall itself does the work of a face.

  • Numerals mount straight to the wall, no frame needed
  • Quiet quartz movement at the centre
  • No dial and no plate behind it to clutter the look
  • Measures 40 cm across

Set it in a hallway, above a sofa, or in a quiet reading corner, and let time hang there, weightless.

Overview

A big wall clock is usually a big disc. You hang a dinner plate of white plastic on a wall whose colour you took a long time to get right, and it becomes the loudest thing in the room.

Hover™ does away with the dial. Twelve separate 3D numerals stick directly onto the plaster in a 40 cm circle, and a small 7 cm hub in the middle carries the hands. With no backing plate and no rim, your wall is the face: the limewash, the paint, the texture, whatever is there. Each numeral stands 5 mm proud, so light from the side gives every one a soft shadow.

It goes up with a paper template and adhesive pads and no drill, so it works on a wall where holes are not allowed. The movement is silent sweep quartz and runs on one AA battery. If you want it somewhere else, the numerals lift off and you can change the spacing.

Care

Dust the numerals with a soft, dry cloth or a clean make-up brush. They are light, so hold each one steady with a fingertip as you do it. Do not use a damp cloth on the adhesive edge, and never use solvent cleaner, which lifts the pads. Change the battery once a year. To remove a numeral, warm it gently with a hairdryer for a few seconds and peel slowly; do not pull.

Materials

Twelve moulded 3D numerals in matte acrylic-faced EVA with adhesive pads already applied, and a round moulded hub disc that houses the movement, with two slim metal hands. Sizes: the numerals are set out in a circle 40 × 40 cm (15.7 × 15.7 in); the hub disc is 7 cm across; the numerals are 3–7 cm tall and about 5 mm deep. Movement: silent sweep quartz, 1 × AA battery (not included). Supplied with a printed paper positioning template. Shipping weight approx. 84 g, boxed 15 × 10 × 3 cm.

Larger than it looks and quieter than it looks

Set out, the numerals span 40 cm, wide enough to read from the far end of a room, but with no disc behind them the wall stays open. Above a sideboard it fills the space without blocking it.

A template and no drill

Tape up the paper template, level it once, then peel each numeral and press it for twenty seconds. It takes twenty minutes from start to finish, with no dust and no holes, and nothing for a landlord to notice when it comes down.

The shadows do the work

Each numeral stands 5 mm off the surface, so the clock changes during the day: flat at noon and long-shadowed by late afternoon. That is why it looks like part of the architecture and not a bought object.

Solved a wall I had given up on

Big blank wall above the sideboard, nothing framed ever looked right on it. This does, because there is no border fighting the plaster. Took me about twenty-five minutes with the template and a spirit level app.

Rental-friendly, which was the whole point

We cannot drill in this flat. Everything else I looked at needed a hook. These stick on and they have not moved in four months, including through a hot spell. Use the template properly, is my advice — eyeballing the spacing will show.

The shadows are the best part

Did not expect this. Our afternoon sun comes in from the side and each number throws a little shadow across the wall, so it looks completely different at four o'clock than it does at ten. Black on a cream wall, if you are wondering.

Frequently asked questions

How big is it once it is on the wall?
The numerals are set out in a circle 40 cm across (15.7 in), about the size of a vinyl record sleeve. The hub in the middle is 7 cm, and the numerals are 3–7 cm tall. You can space them a little wider to fill more wall, and the hands still point correctly.
Does it stick to any wall?
It holds well on smooth painted plaster, plasterboard, glass, tile and sealed wood. It does NOT hold on heavily textured wallpaper, raw brick, unsealed lime or anything chalky or dusty. Wipe the wall and let it dry completely first; most failures come from a dusty surface and not from weak adhesive.
Can it be removed without damage?
On sound modern paint, yes. Warm each numeral with a hairdryer for a few seconds and peel it slowly; do not pull it straight off. On old, flaking or freshly painted walls the pads can take a little paint with them, so if that matters, test one numeral in a low spot first.
How hard is it to get it straight?
Use the printed paper template in the box: tape it up, level it once, and every numeral has a marked position. It is the one step not to rush. Spacing by eye looks fine while you do it and clearly wrong from the doorway afterwards.
Is it noisy?
No. The hub has a silent sweep movement, so the hands glide and do not step, and there is no tick. It takes one AA battery, which is not included; fit a fresh alkaline one and expect about a year.
Black or silver?
Matte Black has the higher contrast and is the one to choose for cream, limewash or any pale wall; it is the one we photographed. Brushed Silver is much quieter and works best on a mid or darker wall, or where you want the shadows to show more than the numerals.
